Form: Gentleman’s shaving or dressing stand
Description: Fine Victorian rosewood gentleman’s shaving stand, circa 1855-1870. The adjustable circular mirror is surrounded by an unusually elaborate concentric openwork frame supported by carved foliate scrolls and a diapered panel. A shaped white marble top surmounts a locking drawer with richly figured rosewood veneer and a finely dovetailed lidded accessory compartment. Turned corner pendants flank the case, raised on a tall ring-turned and fluted standard with carved foliate details, descending to a tripartite base of sweeping legs with carved scrolling feet.

Condition: Rosewood surfaces exhibit scattered scratches, abrasions, finish variation, small cracks, and edge wear consistent with age. Circular mirror frame has visible age-related separations and possible old repairs. Mirror plate has substantial clouding, spotting, and losses to the silvering. Marble top exhibits scratches, staining, surface wear, and minor edge imperfections. Drawer interior has staining from use.
